S1000D (or Specification 1000D)
Specification 1000D (S1000D) is the international specification for technical publication work within the defence and aerospace industries. Originally a specification for use within the aircraft industry, it has been expanded to include land, sea and air platforms, first by the UK MoD as Def Stan 00-60 and later by the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD). With this expansion in both scope and the international aspect, the specification is now also very suitable for work within the civilian engineering industries.

ISO 8879
The ISO Standard 8879 provides guidance in the use of Standard Generalised Mark-up Language (SGML). This standard is an internationally recognised standard for electronic document exchange. SGML makes it possible to encode information in a way that is not biased to any software, hardware or national language dependencies. SGML and its subset eXtensible Mark-up Language (XML) provide the neutral platform to produce S1000D data modules.
