The NATO Codification System (NCS) is the largest cataloguing system in the world. The system enables NATO countries to exchange logistics information on over 16 million items, enabling all items of equipment to be fully supportable when units deploy.
For an item of equipment to enter the UK’s Military Supply chain it must be codified.
A NATO Stock Number (NSN) is broken down into 3 parts. For example:
1005 – 13 – 123 – 4567
- 1005 = NATO Supply Classification Code (NCS)
- 13 = Country assigning the NSN (NCB code)
- 123-4567 = Non-significant number which, with NCB Code, uniquely identifies the item

TMS can also provide full screening on thousands of items in one go.
