TMS receives prestigious MOD award

TMS Support Solutions of Grantham was one of five Lincolnshire based organisations recently recognised for the support they give to the Armed Forces community.

The other companies were Buildbase in Lincoln, Mercury Electronic Warfare Ltd in Sleaford, Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPF) and Forces Cars Direct Limited in Lincoln. Each received the Silver Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Award at an awards event held on 9 November at Burleigh Court in Loughborough where 21 public and private sector businesses from around the region were presented with a certificate by Colonel Tom Redgate, The Deputy Commander (Reserves) of the regional Army HQ.

John Wilson, the Ministry of Defence’s Regional Employer Engagement Director said: “Employing members of the Armed Forces community is beneficial to employers as they can often use the specialist skills and training individuals have gained through the Armed Forces in their workplace. Skills such as teamwork, problem-solving and having the experience of leading a team can be transferred into any civilian organisation.

“The Silver Awards event was a huge success with many of the employers commenting on the value of networking with other businesses who also employ current or former Service personnel.”

Michelle Allbones, Finance Manager of TMS Support Solutions Ltd, commented: “Currently, 73% of our employees are from the Armed Forces Community and we’ve found that the technical skills that they bring to TMS in the fields of vehicle mechanics, avionics and electronics to name a few, are extremely valuable to the services we provide our clients. Deciding to sign the Armed Forces Covenant was an easy decision for us. It allowed us to show our commitment to the wider Armed Forces Community and to highlight this very valuable and highly skilled group of potential employees to other employers. As part of our ongoing commitment we are pleased to have been awarded the Silver Recognition Award and will now be working towards the Gold Award.”

42 further businesses also formally had their Silver Awards renewed after continuing to support the Armed Forces community three years on from when they were first presented this accolade.
